It’s a piece of good news and proud movements for Indians that we have DRDO new drug, by dr reddy lab, that is 2DG drdo medicine which will kill the covid virus in our body and will help us to recover faster.
After hearing this news, I can not believe it, but it’s clear that there is a drug 2DG, by searching.
What is 2 DG drdo Medicine, what is 2dg medicine?
It’s a DRDO new drug, by Dr reddy lab. The name of the drug is 2-DG ( 2-deoxy-D-glucose). It is developed by the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), a lab of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), a Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Hyderabad.
They started their research in April 2020, during the first wave of the pandemic, and found that this molecule works effectively against the SARS-CoV-2 virus and inhibits viral growth.
But what is this drug? Is it an Antiviral, vaccine or Immunity suppressant?
No, It does not fit any category of these drugs.
It’s a unique formula. It accumulates in the virus-infected cells of the patient and prevents virus multiplication inside the cell. Hence virus could not increase in number inside the body and ultimately dies. Its selective accumulation in virally infected cells makes this drug unique.
Is it Tested?
Yes, 2 dg medicine, DRDO new drug, has completed two trials successfully and the results are promising.
After the completion of the first trial, the DCGI permitted Phase-II clinical trial of 2-DG in COVID-19 patients in May 2020.
The DRDO, along with Dr Reddy Laboratory Hyderabad, started the clinical trials to test the safety and efficacy of the drug in COVID-19 patients.
Phase-II trials conducted during May to October 2020, the drug was found to be safe in COVID-19 patients and showed it led to significant improvement in spo2 level of the patient. It was conducted at 11 hospitals all over the country. Phase-II trial was conducted on 110 patients.
All patients treated with 2-DG showed a faster symptomatic cure from the symptoms than routine treatment. Patients treated with the 2-DG drug were recovering faster than the routine treatment. All patients were recovering 2 days before the routine patients who were given routine treatment.
Due to success in the trials, the Third trials started from December 2020 to March 2021 at 27 COVID Hospitals of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Details of the study were submitted to (DGCI) Drugs Controller General of India.
It is found that many patients who were on nasal oxygen, were free from this o2 dependence, early than the other patients who were not a part of trials.
In what form it is? is it 2dg powder?
Yes, it is in the form of 2dg powder. It will be supplied in a sachet. The patient has to dissolve in water and take it orally.
But the price of the 2dg medicine sachet has not decided yet. It is not clear from Dr, Reddy lab, who is going to manufacture it. It still requires some more time to manufacture the drug and to decide its price.
As India has been witnessing a massive surge in coronavirus infections in the second wave, it is seen as a ray of hope for the covid patients. On Sunday, the country reported 4,03,738 new COVID-19 cases per the health ministry update on Sunday morning.
If this drug is available in the market within one month, we can set a goal to prevent third-wave touching to India.
When all the measures fail to prevent the spread of this virus in India, I hope this will prove to be a wonder drug for this deadly contaminating disease. Not only for India but the whole world, It should help all country to eliminate this virus.
2dg drug availability
When this DRDO new drug , by Dr reddy lab, will be available for public use, is not declared by DRDO or the government. Under emergency usage licence, its use started at many hospitals for needy patients.
